take so much
i can hold my breath, i can bite my tongue, i can stay awake for days. if that's what you want, be your number one. i can fake a smile, i can force a laugh. i can dance and play the part; if that's what you ask. give you all i am. i can do it. i can do it. i can do it. but i'm only human, and i bleed when i fall down, i’m only human and i crash and i break down. your words in my head, knives in my heart. you build me up and then i fall apart, ‘cause i'm only human
seven openings; three clans
they say that curiosity killed the cat, but this time it simply fell down the rabbit hole and never clawed its way back out.
it all started with two kits who spent lazy afternoons living in a world where only they existed. KIT1 was a gentle little cat with an imagination that seemed to have no bounds, and it took them on many adventures. KIT1 was never seen without the best friend, KIT2 who would follow KIT1 like an inquisitive kitten, naïve and wide-eyed at the stories that KIT1 could weave.
little did they know that one day the land of intrigue and mystery that KIT1 so often talked about could be found, and that the stories stories would suck them in and swallow them whole.
KIT1 and KIT2 were separated when they became apprentices due to an argument over their half-clan blood status, but vowed to remain the best of friends. KIT1 slowly began to withdraw from his/her old life, and all KIT2 the old friend was that KIT1 was becoming a different person. stay in wonderland too long and you're bound to change, and on KIT1 was going exactly through that. KIT1 was still strong, adventurous and whimsical, and KIT2 trusted the best friend's judgment, but it was the rumors about who KIT1 was surrounding him/herself with that made KIT2 so nervous. they seemed so unlike any cat in KIT2’s friend group; they seemed untamed and eccentric, and the images always made KIT2 worry about her best friend.
KIT2 figured they’d just have to wait until the next gathering to hear all about the best friends new friends, but the next gathering never came for KIT1.
KIT1 went missing. they searched halfheartedly, said she most likely just ran off somewhere: young ones do, sometimes. they always come back.
KIT2 went across borders to find the friend, that’s where she met KIT3 who reminded the cat so much of the childhood friend. asking KIT3 if s/he ever known KIT1, the cat immediately perked up. “yes! yes i know that person! often went down the rabbit hole with me. curious little thing, so good at exploring, but wasn’t good enough. i think s/he got lost down there, somewhere…”
“lost where? where in the rabbit hole? what rabbit hole?” KIT2 shouted at the one who seemed so hazy, but KIT3 immediately changed course when thinking longer.
“oh! i remember us going to KIT4 s/he’s absolutely fun! i suppose s/he might be, if you like that sort of fun. you should meet KIT4” KIT2 soon obliged and met KIT4, immediately taken aback by the eccentricity.
“who is that with him/her?” KIT2 whispered to KIT3.
“why that’s KIT5, of course! they’re never seen without the other.”
KIT4 did in fact know KIT1, and actually was one of the last one to see him/her, as s/he gave KIT1 directions the day s/he disappeared. of course, KIT4 didn’t tell anyone that information, and definitely wasn’t going to tell the patrol about some silly half-clanned kitty cat. KIT4 was okay when being questioned about KIT1, but had to grill KIT5 every single day to stop acting so nervous. they had an inkling of an idea of what happened to KIT1, but were so tired that they only get a little flashbacks every once in a while.
KIT3 also told KIT2 about KIT6 who KIT1 had spend all his/her time with walking at night, and about KIT7 who always watched and smirked mysteriously. it was the last thing that KIT3 could remember, and KIT2 began to have an odd obsession with it, thinking it could be the key to unlock the whole mystery. KIT3 explained that KIT6 ruled their little clique, and took KIT1 under the wing after being so abruptly transferred over to a different clan with different people. and that’s all KIT3 told KIT2, KIT3 failed to mention that s/he had never trusted KIT6.
KIT6 is proper, deceitful, charming and power-hungry, and KIT3 saw the way KIT6 got when people started liking KIT1 better. KIT6 knows everything about anyone, and uses that to his/her advantage.
KIT2 never meets KIT6, as KIT3 only tells him/her who KIT6 is, but nothing about the wicked personality.
the trail grew cold after the encounter with KIT5 who was far better at changing the subject then answering questions. days passed and KIT2 and KIT3’s bond strengthened, and eventually KIT2 realized just how into adventure and misfit that KIT3 is. KIT2 had a hissy-ft and refused to watch KIT3 fall into a world of rule-breaking. but KIT3 was headstrong and although KIT2 was now the best friend, KIT3 couldn’t help but go to the rabbit-holes and whisper secrets and hear directions. KIT2 was about to leave in a fit of rage, until recognizing the person who had given KIT3 the directions. “that's KIT7” KIT3 told, and KIT2 remembered his/her placement in some of the stories, always in the background, watching with an unnerving smile.
KIT7 is a mysterious presence around their friend group; no one knows where s/he came from, where s/he’s going, or what his/her real name even is. s/he comes and goes as s/he pleases, sometimes here, sometimes there, sometimes nowhere at all, and with his/her flexible identity, s/he can get in and out of so many situations. known for speaking in riddles with a know-it all mentality, always the fly on the wall, smiling at things that aren’t truly funny. dislikes KIT6, but sticks alongside him/her because of the connections; without the protection, s/he may be in trouble. loves playing mind games; no one knows what KIT7 is really ever thinking.
KIT2 asks KIT7 if s/he ever knew KIT1, and s/he shrugs with his/her curved up lips. “sorry love, pretty young’uns all over this rotten place of a forest. sure s/he wasn’t ugly? too bad, i would’ve remembered him/her if s/he had been.” KIT2 pushes descriptions in KIT7’s face, and s/he still smiles. “oh, that one. that one’s gone.” when KIT2 asks gone where, KIT7 shrugs. “does it matter? gone is gone. you can trust me when i say that one ain’t coming back.”
KIT3 turns, “KIT2.. i think your friend is dead.”
